Lesley Ames is a photographer, artist, and explorer with a soulful way of seeing. Her work captures the essence of being—whether in the deep gaze of a beloved dog, the shifting light on an open landscape, or the quiet connection between strangers.
Photography has been a lifelong thread in her story, first woven in her grandfather’s darkroom and later expanding across nearly 40 countries, 29 U.S. states, and countless untouched landscapes. Her images are a meditation on connection and the profound presence animals and nature bring into our lives.
Lesley’s journey into fine art pet portraiture was deeply influenced by her dog, Stanley, whose wise and joyful spirit reshaped how she sees and photographs animals. Inspired by their bond, her portraits honor dogs as soulful beings—playful, wise, and full of life. Whether capturing a cherished companion in motion or at rest, her work is designed to bring joy, beauty, and spirit into any home.
In addition to her fine art pet portraits, Lesley’s nature projects explore the botanical world of the Midwest Prairie, capturing the raw beauty of plants and the vibrant spirit of the American heartland—a reflection of her deep connection to nature and its ever-changing beauty.
With over 25 years of experience in creative direction, design, and storytelling, she approaches her work with both intention and intuition. Her collectors and clients are drawn to images that evoke the essence of being, seen and unseen.
Based in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood, Lesley’s work is available for private commissions and exhibitions.
